| This is really a reference book. I can't imagine anyone reading it cover to cover. For me, the first 90 pages on green house design and operation were exactly what I needed. In the middle, there are 170 pages of commentary, organized by plant, in which the author makes witty and pointed comments on the utility of growing the specific plant in a green house. For example, on Avocados, he writes: "Before you get excited about homegrown guacamole fresh from your greenhouse, I need to tell you that avocados are difficult to get to produce fruit in a greenhouse." On banana, he states: "Bananas are worth growing solely for the tropical look they bring to a sunspace, and you can also get a harvest from your banana." Throughout the other ... Read More |

| Very nice picture book. Not much info on greenhouse growing but good info on greenhouses of ten years ago. The newer greenhouse have been left out. So much has changed in the last few years, double poly roofs, hydroponics, heating under tables, steal construction, shading, cross ventilation, all were left out of this new edition but nice color pictures and a good beginner book. If you want a up to date greenhouse book see, Secrets to a Successful Greenhouse and Business. |

This is a great book for a person who moves into a new home and already has a greenhouse. This book is an excellent education in greenhouse gardening. |

| This book lacks the depth I was looking for. They often use Great Briton gardening phrases and speak to an audience that never has to deal with real issues like tough winters, using solar heat, practical insect control using good bugs and organics. |

| It is probably not easy writing a second book on a similar subject.I read and reviewed Eliot Coleman's first book on Organic Gardening.And as you can read in that first review,I just loved that book.The second book,I would have called "Cold Hardy Winter Vegetables",rather than the Four-Season Harvest. Of course there is a list for growing vegetables all year round.But apart from the list what one can grow during the colder season,it is just pretty much a recapitulation of the first work Coleman put on paper. So I still give this book 4 Stars.Because if you have not read his first one,then of course it would be a great book. |
