| I am a big advocate on using plants to create green walls and roofs. They can reduce the urban "heat island" effect and create usable green open spaces. I found this book's discussions on Intensive Green Roof, Extensive Green Roof, Ecoroof, Brown Roof, etc interesting. This book is a serious attempt on a difficult subject. The color photos inside the book are helpful also.
There are still technical difficulties in using green walls and roofs: water proofing, how to handle the structural weight of large trees, how to integrate large plants with building structure, etc. All these technical discussions are needed, and they could be the subject of another book. | This book covers almost every aspect of landscape sketch and graphic. It is good for you if you want to learn hand sketch, it is also good for you if you want to create nice CAD drawings. Many of the tree /shrub symbols in both plan views and elevation views are nicely done, they can inspire you to create nice computer blocks for trees and shrubs for plans and sections and elevations.

| I am a student in environmental planning and have found this book to be extremely useful. It address a variey of things such as watershed, storm discharge, streamflow, etc. It really gives the reader an idea of how to design with nature. |

| Whether you're a plant collector or an avid gardener, or both as I am, this book is worth its weight in gold (and it weighs a lot). Dirr's work is indispensable. I like to collect plants, including rare and unusual plants and I like to start woody plants from seed. This manual takes the mystery out of guessing what the plants' needs are and exactly what conditions are required for sowing seeds. I even find myself reading about some old favorites (like American Elm, Sugar Maple, Red Oak, etc.) and learning new things. I've only had this manual for a few weeks and I've already got many pages marked with "stickies" and highlighted many passages and even made notes in the margins. You don't even miss the pictures.

| A late "bloomer" in the gardening world (at almost 63 years of age), I've read lots of books on the subject, mostly to educate myself on the somewhat complex botanical terminology and also to not appear too "green" when in the presence of avid gardeners.
Through Amazon, I came across Liz Primeau's "Front Yard Gardens: Growing More Than Grass", a book I can sum up in one word...WOW!
