| As a novice, I've found thi great for letting me in on secrets that it must take years to learn. How to train a climbing rose, to correct a lopsided tree, to stop shrubs getting out of hand to get the most fruit off trees and bushes. I wouldn't have known where to start without it.
I think it's worth spending the extra on this, the more complete version, as it has tips on specific species and even varieties: redcurrant, wisteria, acid cherry, magnolia etc etc etc |

| I bought this book last year to read to my 3 children. They absolutly loved it and used to snuggle up in bed in great anticipation waiting to see where they would visit that night. Seeing this book on amazon and reading the last review reminded me of the book I must take out and read again to my children. Its a collection of meditative visualisations made especially for kids. I wish someone would read it to me!! Whether youre in the middle of a huge jungle dancing with lions and snakes or dressing up in different character costumes your kids will love it!! A great buy to treasure for years, just the kind of book you could read to your childrens children in years to come!! |

| Fantastic book. Great colour photos, yes some of the gardens you may have seen before but a really diverse mixture of containers to inspire you which come with 'recipes' and cross referenced to the plant info at the back of the book. Also details of how to propagate, winter protection, pests and diseases and just about all you need to know. Easy to follow format, highly recomended. |

| this is a great mix - stories from some well known names (like Rose Tremain - one of my favourites) and new writing from MA students as well. You never know what to expect from student anthologies - but I was impressed with the standard and the range of styles and topics. |

| I'm almost reluctant to discuss this classic resource book in public as I've kept it as a secret. It is generally well-known in the US but less well-known over here! I've been using it for nearly twenty years, and it has never ceased to dazzle students at all levels. I have to say my copy is very battered now, witness to the fact that I use it regularly. I am delighted to see there is an updated edition. Briefly, how it works: each major section on an aspect of OB is designed in the same way: to take the learner round Kolb's cycle through a series of articles, exercises, reflection and theories. I heartily recommend it - but use it carefully or it will become as well-known as the old BACIE exercises were! |

| Clearly laid-out, and simple to follow, this book will guide you through the steps necessary to keeping your shrubs, trees and climbers in good shape. General rules and principles are given, followed by listings of individual plants with clear instructions for each. Inset boxes help you to determine which member of a group such as clematis you are trying to prune, and therefore when and how to do so. It is full of invaluable advice, and the diagrams are incredibly helpful. It is nearly as good as having an expert show you in person! If you are at all serious about your garden, don't be without this marvellous book. |

| A well illustrated and good reference to the art of topiary and training plants. Leaning towards traditional topiary with plants such as yew and boxwood. Topiary with these plants is not executed overnight. A reasonable section on false topiary (making living sculptures with vigourous growing ivies)is described. Overall an excellent coffee table book to browse for ideas, particulary at the garden planning stage. |
