| This is an incredibly useful guide if you want to be more self-sufficient. It has sections on generating your own power, recycling, organic gardening, animal husbandry, brewing and preserving produce. The layout of the book is very clean-looking with simple, clear diagrams. I have looked at a number of different books on self-sufficiency and this is definitely one of the best. |

| With everyone jumping on the green and self-help horse-drawn bandwagon, there's a lot of chaff to be sorted out.
Fortunately, this book is a golden grain of wheat. It's concise, if slightly repetitious in places, and introduced me to several technologies and ideas I didn't know about. I only have one gripe and that is with the Wind Power section of the book. As with so many things written about small scale wind turbines, I'm afraid this book not only fails to properly take into account the ongoing costs and other aspects of domestic/small-scale wind, but there are also a couple of factual errors, one with kiloWatts written instead of Watts - only a error of magnitude 1000! | I found this book extremely superficial. With the minimum of research, anyone could have written this book. Although it is perhaps unfair to expect too much depth in such a small book, the number of times that any sort of the imparting of any sort of useful information is skated over with a bland statement referring the reader to an expert are legion.
It almost prompts me to set about writing a book of my own with useful and practical information in it. |
