| At first I thought NLP was some hocus-pocus magic stuff, that didn't really work, but boy did it! I am now able to easiloy create rapport, and I find I communicate a hell of a lot more easily... You have inspired me...!!!!! |

| I don't know much about about NLP and find it confusing. This book is very helpful, albeit there is still much jargon to sift through. The techniques I have tried work amazingly well. It is a lot to learn but I'm going back through material as I want to use it for myself and for others. This book is the best I have come across on this complicated but very interesting subject. |

| I found O'Connor & Lages's style to be useful and straightforward, with a continuous emphasis on practice. Very helpful for someone familiar with NLP and keen to use it in coaching. Regular reminders to avoid psychoanalysing clients and just helping them get on with their agenda proved very useful to me. Very useful book. |

| I've read Joseph O'Connor's books before and really enjoyed the humour in the early ones and then loved 'The Star of the Sea' which really puts his writing on a new level. I found this book a little hard to get into as it's not your average novel. But after a while, I got used to the unusual story-telling and found that it was compelling. The novel has real pace, even though it's 700 odd pages long and though initially there seem to be diversions, it's all relevant in the end. I think this book is a real achievement and I wouldn't be suprised if it wins awards. |

| I did really enjoy the reading of this book. A captivating story set back at the time of the Great Famine, one of the darkests periods in Irish history. Very well defined characters and a plot that entangles you until the end. Maybe a few reduntant pages, from time to time, but overall a book I strongly recommend. |

| I found this CD very useful as I was studying NLP at University at the time. As I am a person with and audio preference I found it easy to digest and was able to listen to it on my way to and from work. The content is simple to understand and puts its subject matter into an everyday, commonsense context. I wish more texts were available in this format as I would personally find it easier to improve my knowledge and effectiveness almost effortlessly! |

| This isn't really a book on NLP so much as a book on relationships and understanding them. As such it's well written and interesting. It spends a lot of time explaining the three voices Instinctive, Conditioned and Intellectual and how to listen to them and keep them in balance so that you can know what is important to you. It then moves on to how to work on problems and understand your partner better. It is by no means a comprehensive book on relationships or NLP but it gives an angle that no other book I've read gives and in that respect it's excellant. |

| With all the books available on coaching it was a wonder to know what another book could bring to the subject. But 'How Coaching Works' manages to provide an overview of the different methods of coaching that shows clearly their common elements and makes it clear what is necessary to achieve results for the coachee. The word 'synthesis' comes to mind as this book is all embracing and explains the past and present of coaching and makes educated predictions about the future of coaching. Another word that comes to mind is 'pragmatic' as this book is easy to read and understand, and the examples are all evidence based rather than theoretical. This is valuable reading no matter what your interest in coaching is, from the beginner to the expert. |

| After meeting an NLP practitioner I decided to find out more due to the help I received. It was more by luck than judgement that I chose Way of NLP, however, it provides a thorough outline of NLP explaining States, Submodalities, Chunking (my favourite term), Cues, Behaviour Beliefs etc. etc. The authors have been able to explain the concepts of the above in an understandable (not patronising) language and have given examples of how NLP techniques can be used. I have been able to read and digest the contents of the book and have found myself intelligently discussing different aspects at a level that surprises me - of course I have put NLP into use to help me achive this. It has encouraged me to learn more. |

| "Star of the Sea" was my first encounter with O'Connor and I was eager to read his back catalogue after its brilliance. Unfortunately, "Desperadoes" seemed like it was written by another author entirely. The rich characters of "Star" were replaced by tired, modern stereotypes (the new age traveller, the withdrawn-but-strong working class parents, the rebellious son, the cunning Latin American police chief). I could not empathize with anyone in the novel and struggled to get through it at all. His other novels sit on my bedside table, but after reading this they tend to get regularly overlooked. |
