An enjoyable read but follows a very similar pattern to the first book which makes it far too predictable and slightly repetitive. Having said that, I think the relationship between Bella and Jacob was far superior than Edward and Bella - how many people will shoot me down for that? :). I think this is because it's much more natural, the latter's relationship always seemed a bit superficial, what with Bella always being dazed by Edward's beauty. Then again, perhaps Jacob is too good for the likes of Bella. Her constant references to her metaphorical holes did irk me quite a bit. Also, the comparisons to Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet were just a tad too corny.

This graphic novel has been given a massive amount of praise and to be honest, I'm not sure why. Perhaps because it's Alan Moore, perhaps because it is Batman vs Joker, perhaps because it has a Joker origin. I'm not sure.

I read it in one sitting, it's a very short and at £10 is a bit expensive. As it's so short there's not really a story. None at all. Batman turns up at the begining and the end, the middle is mainly flashbacks to the Joker origin. Which is campy and somewhat uninteresting.

The end is somewhat ambiguous following on the unexplored idea of should Batman kill the joker and why.

Really, the problem is not bad writing, just that it's too short and doesn't really explore the relationship at all.

Andrew Marr's book is, if not a totally one-way glass facade, then certainly a pretty smeared window upon society that is clearly influenced by the naive, PC stupidity of those many refer to as the 'chattering classes'. Shallow and childlike. The professional intelligentsia, and their private armchair and public media imitators, will surely love it.

This book swiftly draws the reader in to a world of tragedy, coincidence and mystery, described with humour and some sympathy. The story races along, the telling of it embellished with clever and at times unexpected use of language. But I read Kate Atkinson books at least twice - once for the plot and the second time to savour her writing. With one exception, the characters are well-drawn, if not rounded. The character of Louise Monroe figures large in this novel and inhabits an unsatisfying corner of the narrative. In some instances she is as real as your best friend; in others she is like an avenging but powerless angel or devil, and carries little credibility. Notwithstanding the enigma of Louise, this is a cracking book.

Although diehard theologians seem minimally affected by this book according to the author, I would like to say congratulations on "The GOD Delusion" in success in denying the existence of GOD. However, whether or not the author has been successful in giving a meaningful basis for life of ordinary people is yet to be answered. The problem with this kind of scientific thesis is that, if I borrow a paragraph from existing "psychical knowledge," "Science's thesis meets with no answering affirmation in the human heart--and in fact arouses the deepest antipathy." and this may be a reason why people need "God." Prof. Steven Weinberg is quoted by the author as saying (in Chapter 7/ p. 283) "Religion is an insult to human dignity. With or without it...." I agree with the opinion. However, ... Read More

This is not great literature but it was a really good holiday read with a strong ending which did not leave you feeling let down. It is a combination of "Upstairs Downstairs" mixed with elements of "The Go-Between" and with a splash of "Brideshead Revisited". Well worth a read.

The hero in "The Ghost" in an unnamed ghostwriter, who takes over the job as ghostwriter for British ex-prime minister Adam Lang, after the previous ghostwriter, Mike McAra, died mysteriously. Our ghost hero travels to Martha's Vineyard where Lang is staying, and while the ghost tries to meet his deadline, Adam Lang is accused of war crimes and the ghost happens upon some of McAra's research, he realizes Lang may be hiding something.

The book is written in first person, and it's well written, often funny. The book kept my interest and at first the ending seemed like a bit of an anticlimax, but it eventually delivered, but not in the way I had expected. "The Ghost" may not appeal to all thriller fans but I found it enjoyed it.

Having read the other reviews about how gripping this book was, it was disappointing to find it relied on crude language, a poorly executed plot and generally graphic sex scenes that were irrelevant and at best, unimaginative. All the characters had potential to develop but were let down by shortcuts and poor conclusions. Could have been much better written with a different ending and more care to make the characters less one dimensional.
