| I have quite a few Japanese garden books, and I'd recommend this one above all others as your first; and if you only buy one, buy this one.
The range of photographs for inspiration is impressive and the accompanying sketches explain points of design theory well. The text is concise yet thorough in almost every aspect you could possibly need. There is not only an extensive plant list, but every one has a photo to show you what the plant looks like too! It's the only place I found an alternative to moss that might grow in my garden. If you want to create your first garden and don't know where to start, buy this book. | Finally a book that caters for people who love their gardens but don't happen to know the latin names for plants or all the technical terms that Gardeners Question Time fans can probably recite blindfold. As the owner of a small/medium city space garden this has been a revelation in providing practical tips and beautiful (and often affordable and achievable)inspiration. Beautifully laid out and photographed, along with very clear diagrams and models. This book provides recognises that many of us don't own mature cottage gardens with acres and acres of space - a very good value title. |

| Have bought and reviewed Low Maintenance Gardens by the same author, so when I saw there were another three titles in the series I thought I'd try this one too as a supplement. It's fantastic for someone like me who needs stylish inspiration but also simple, easy-to-digest information on the basics Really handholds readers through sorting their green patches out! |
