This book has proved to be a great source of inspiration. I especially liked the grass stools and have 2 either side of my toddlers play house in the garden. The children love to sit on these as they are just the right height and offer something different e.g. colour and texture.
I have also created one for a friends daughters 2nd birthday.

There are lots of ideas for a range of ages and seasons, some simple and some a bit more adventurous - something to keep you busy right through the year.

Introducing children to the garden is a great way of developing the senses and this book is a great help in encouraging lots of outdoor play & activity.

Nicely presented, great photo's and clear, easy instructions ... Read More

Although this book dosen't contain 'schemes' in the sense of ready-made plot plans, it explores in some detail, using excellant photo's with detailed captions, the plant-combinations for various parts of the Sissinghurst garden through much of the year. For gardeners wishing to recreate some of the success of the plant associations for which Sissinghurst is justly famous, this wee book is a good, but not exhaustive, guide. Tony Lord is an experienced author with an in depth knowledge of the garden, and that is reflected in the choices he has made and the comments accomapnying the magnificent photos. The magic of Sissinghurst is unique to the place itself - I doubt whether detailed plans would be of any value if used to 'replant' elsewhere. The general ... Read More

Challenging, disturbing, even hallucinatory, the site of Bomarzo (also known as Sacro Bosco, Parco Mostri, or Viterbo) has long intrigued those garden historians who look for meaning in the gardens of Renaissance Italy. Unlike the classical gardens of the Villa d"Este, or the Villa Lante, Bomarzo boasts no fountains, no classical terraces and no fine vistas; its iconography does not refer directly to its owner, nor its statuary to Roman gods. Instead visitors encounter a series of bizarre tableaux where sphinxes mingle with elephants, a tortoise is surmounted by Fame, the Mask of Madness confronts the Goddess of Fertility, and the Mouth of Hell is gaping open for all to enter.
