Bought this book 2 plus yrs ago. Brilliant. I admit was initially sad by lack of colour pictures!! but as time has gone on and have now managed to dig most of my veg. plot (rather than stare at it in hope) and made time to plan, this book has been invaluable. There's loads of info. on the web (some a little confusing and a little conflicting) but Ms Larkcom's info. is steadfast and logical and is my first and sometimes, only, port of call. It's a valuable reference for both new and experienced allotment keepers. I've given away my glossy, pretty, fairly useless allotment books and kept to hand this superbly informative and helpful reference. Cheers Ms Larkcom, it was worth every penny.

I'm an admirer of Monty Don and I enjoyed the TV series this book is based on. But the book is far too sketchy to be satisfying; there's simply not enough material here, not enough photographs, too few insights.
If this is an Around the World trip, it's one of those lightning coach tours full of camera snapping tourists ("If it's Tuesday it must be Paris").
Worth a read, but not worth the asking price. As someone has commented before, just borrow it from the library; the publishers have let Monty down with this one.

I found this book really helpful with lots of illustrations and easily understood information about lots of trees and shrubs. I managed to identify several of my shrubs that I did not know the name of, from the illustrations, as there are some quite unusual ones there. My only wish would be that the book was in the same format, but dealing with flowering shrubs only and twice as many of them. Overall though an excellent book.

This is an excellent complimentary book to go alongside a "how to allotment" book. Most people taking a plot nowadays don't have as much time to devote to it as they would like. This gives some excellent ideas for managing the differences between aspirations and reality. Not an everyday reference book, but readable and useful all the same.

I did the Coast to Coast walk back in '89 (in baking hot weather) and again - partly - in '96 (in pouring rain). Up to this day the memory of this walk remains with me as vividly as ever and I consider that forthnight as the most wonderful two weeks in my life. AW learnt me to appreciate the North English Countryside with its quiet villages and open spaces, its desolate moorlands and austere fells. Furthermore, I consider this guide a little gem because of the hand drawn illustrations, maps and (witty) narrative. I mean - who hand-writes a book?
These days you will need additional map material because the route has changed in places, but this book is a requirement. I still remember reading the C-to-C walker's log book in the Danby Wiske pub where ... Read More

These are delightful patterns. I really like the way the patterns are presented but have a criticism: There is no explanation on how to start (you have to crochet into the slip knot and pull it tight but ther is no explanation how to do this) and the first pattern I followed (small teddy bear) had a mistake in it. For an experienced crocheter no problem but for a novice of the crat offputting - which is a shame because the results are just adorable. I hope they iron out the mistakes in the next edition!

This is a lovely little story. I find it quite uplifting reading about the children developing their personallites and becoming quite different people. I have always loved this story, and also the film. Would recomend as a classic, a childrens story and for adults reading!
