| This book is a must for those who want to build a water feature but have no previous experience in this area. It is well laid out, informative and inspirational. As a garden design student I have consulted many books on this subject but felt this was the one I should buy. |

| An excellent introduction and reference book for growing salad plants. The usual supects are covered as well as some rather more obscure ones. Creatively illustrated with marvelous photography, Larkcom firstly arranges chapters of salad plants such as stems and stalks, fruiting vegetables etc., as you would expect, but also flowers, herbs and wild plants. She then turns her attention to cultivation and finally ends with a few recipes. Anyone interested in starting a small kitchen garden, allotment or potager will find this invaluable and desperately inspiring. Joy Larkcom has been growing food since the seventies and her knowlege and clear style are inspiring. |

| I have quite a few Japanese garden books, and I'd recommend this one above all others as your first; and if you only buy one, buy this one.
The range of photographs for inspiration is impressive and the accompanying sketches explain points of design theory well. The text is concise yet thorough in almost every aspect you could possibly need. There is not only an extensive plant list, but every one has a photo to show you what the plant looks like too! It's the only place I found an alternative to moss that might grow in my garden. If you want to create your first garden and don't know where to start, buy this book. | I'm no flower expert and neither are my children so it is no surprise that whenever we are out walking, whether the park or trips to our favourite National Trust gardens I am always being asked the names of flowers they don't immediately recognise, and neither do I! I read a review of this book in the Sunday Times and having purchased it I no longer have to fobb them off with "it's a pink somethingorother". This book will be a handy companion for all family days out in the future. |
