| This book manages to be both an attractive glossy with many colour photos, and to have clearly laid out, relevant information. So, nice to look at and actually useful. Covers all the essential techniques, and includes detailed sections on individual fruit, veg and herbs. (e.g. Parsnips - 2 large pages; herbs - 2 featured per page). This would suit someone like me who is newish to gardening. It answers my queries and prompts ideas. It is not aimed at anyone who wants a great deal of information on a particular species. |

| A wonderfully written exploration of the story of the apple. The author traces the tale through the botany, history, geology, art, literature, zoology that influenced this important fruit. Extremely readable, and beautifully illustrated with original artwork and photos, the author guides us through thousands of years of history from Adam and Eve through to Johnny Appleseed. Loved the book. Highly recommend.

| I agree that this text could use an update, especially on the newer varieties of grapes which have been developed in the past decade, however this text will make you a vintner if you read it in depth and acquire some "hands on" experience to go with it. The text is high quality print, and mine is covered with plastic and accompanies me often in the vineyards. It's focus is on the California industry but it is also a good guide for the northeastern USA and rest of the world. |
