I think the reviews here probably sum this book up quite well. There is a realtively simple, and as far as I can see, valid point being made, but the book is written in a long-winded, verbose style, which I found very off-putting. I agree with the reviewers who point out that the strongest message to emerge is that the author considers himself to be very, very clever.
For instance, there is a lot of space devoted to discussion of the bell-shaped curve, or normal distribution, which forms the basis for many types of statistics. Some variables, such as height and weight are normally distributed. However, other variables, such as personal wealth, and many things related to economics, have a very skewed distribution, hence sayings like the ... Read More

In this lovely, useful book, Richard Thaler and Cass Sunstein examine choices, biases and the limits of human reasoning from a variety of perspectives. They often amuse by disclosing how they have fallen victim to the limitations of thought that they are describing. The fact that these educated, articulate professionals can fool themselves so often demonstrates how tough it is to think clearly, a point the authors emphasize and even repeat. Humans fall prey to systematic errors of judgment, but you can harness this problematic tendency productively, including by helping others make better decisions. Some of the authors' suggestions may not be practical, but many are and all are interesting. getAbstract recommends this book to anyone who wants to know ... Read More

The book will help you mainly for the abstract reasoning and decision analysis. However the verbal reasoning section is terrible. A lot of the answers are wrong and provide invalid explanations.
Helpful? Some parts
Worth the money? No
Better alternatives? Buy the succeeding the UKCAT book.

Even though there's no actual way to revise for the UKCAT, the practical examples in this book give you a great idea about what to expect from the exam. Having full practice questions (which you don't get in most books like this) makes you feel a lot more confident about taking the exam and everything's well enough explained to let you understand the questions much better. I'm glad I bought it, now I've just got to get through the exam!

I really liked several things about this book, not least that Tim Ferris didn't make it all sound easy, but rather, showed us why it is important to find a way to be financially free. Driven, successful people often find it hard to just lie on a beach, and how would you just take off on your own if you have always had people around you.....it sort of put me off a bit - which could have been sabotaging my long term success! I've always struggled with the idea of what to do when I no longer have to stay in the UK, when the kids are grown up, but can travel the world drawing a passive income from my business.....well, thanks to Tim, now I know what I'm going to do, I'm going to have "purposeful holidays". I'm going to go and live for 3-6 months at a time in an area ... Read More

Search Engine Optimisation has acquired a status which might be regarded similar to that of the magic circle:
It's secretive - only those in the circle really know the tricks
There's an element of magic - SEOs do things we don't understand
It's competitive - we all want to get to the top
It's closed - those within the circle do not disclose all the tricks
They even categorise their tricks as good and bad with the terms "white hat" and "black hat"

Well, in this excellent new book David Viney has let us all into the circle, and what we learn is that it's not magic!

However, I should like to follow that statement by immediately saying that it is plainly not easy either. Also, by the very nature of the fierce competition for ... Read More

This book is definetly worth gettin because it is an interesting read and the author clearly knows what he is talking about. What i like about the book is it is based on research and science, not half guesses and assumptions.

It does make you more aware of sales techniques and how to not fall victim to their techniques. I do think some chapters he tends to go on abit too much for the sake of making the chapter and book longer ( feels that way when you read it) because when you read the book you will find a summary at the end of each chapter which explains 40 pages worth on 1 page.

Though he does go deep into the principles and logic of the science of persuasion if you think that you will become a master persuader after reading this then you will be dissapointed. ... Read More

To reduce philosophy and literature to pieces of garbage is the main characteristic of our time, a dark age in belief. Absolute individualism, freedom, egocentricism are destroying the Western society have already show serious signs of all kinds of sickness. And this book and the phenomenon it created is nothing new, but really old: that people without direction but full of illusion have every reason to cheer about, when they see something like this to further draw their hearts to the darkness that refuses the light. I wonder how long this darkness and sickness will last.

Having just finished an MBA myself from London Business School, I saw this book at Heathrow on my way out of the UK and bought it with curiosity. I wanted to see whether my experience at London Business School would have been significantly different from that at a top American school; Harvard, of course, as far as MBA brands go, being number one in my opinion regardless of what competitors or any rankings say.

This book can be recommended to those interested in applying to Harvard or a comparable top MBA program to see if they have the right expectations of an MBA program; as well as to graduates of other programs to see how the experience at their schools compare against the holy grail of MBAs. It really goes inside what the MBA culture is about in general, especially at elitist schools, ... Read More
