| As is typical for Paul Weller, you dont know what to expect but coming out of the other side of this musical masterpiece, you just hope we can expect more. Its not Wild wood but were all 15 years older now - its not illumination, thankfully as i could never get into that - in fact its difficult to compare this apart from saying Ive been waiting for him to produce something this good since Stanley Rd - ive not stopped listening to it and pick up something great each time. This is truly worth buying and giving the time it deserves to take it all in. |

| This album shows the progression Paul Weller has made as a purely solo artist from 1992 to 1998. The tracks on it are stunning and include "Changing Man" "Out of the Sinking" "Broken Stones" "You do something to me " and many more it does not however include any of the stunning tracks which were not released as singles and therefore the collection is rather incomplete.
I would advise anyone buying this to treat it as an introduction to Paul Weller's solo work and then go on and buy his back catalogue as I am sure you will find songs on the albums which are better than some of the tracks included. I say this as a die hard Weller fan that first saw the Jam in the 1970's and still enjoys his work today. |

| Weller fans will love this, but then again, so will almost everyone!
I'm quite hard to please, but I have to say that in a career spanning over 30 years, there's been very little of Weller's work that I've disliked. Admittedly, as a 15 year-old lad, I was sad when The Jam dissolved, but later in life I realised the importance of that move. Likewise, I lost the plot a bit when TSC became completely obsessed with themselves, but apart from that, there have been very few "speed wobbles". So for me, the stand-out tracks are "broken stones", "thechangingman" and "time passes"....but what an awesome album! Choose your own favourites. | how could they of left in the city off especially when they mention the song in the booklet in the city theres a thousand words etc i bought this when it came out i think it was a year gone last christmas cant remember buy so much!! lol i bought my mam it for chrimbo and i loved it myself so when and got my self a copy!! the box set is better it has more from the style council and more of his solo too buy the box set!! |

| I've been best mates with my best mate(dur!...obviously!) for over 25 years. He got this album before me, and when he remarked to me that it was "obvious filler", we fell out, and he had to buy me several pints before I would speak to him again.
I really like it. It oozes class. Right from the opening riffs of Heavy Soul Part I through to Friday Street. The tracks that will live forever are obvious...Peacock Suit, Brushed and Friday Street, but there are other unforgettable songs in between, too. Who else gives you a dozen anthems every time you buy one of his albums? |

| I bought my first Jam single in 1978 and stuck by PW and his music up to the splendid "Into Tomorrow" single way back when. However, I then came disillushioned and must admit that I became one of the dreaded "his solo stuff isn't as good as The Jam/Style Council" nightmares. That statement was spoken parrot fashion to anyone who mentioned the two words PAUL and WELLER to me in the same sentence. My argument always came unstuck however, if anyone DARED to ask me if I'd actually listened to anyone his solo material...of course we know the answer to that one, don't we?!

| How did The Style Council go so badly wrong (at the end) when PW still had music like this inside him?
If truth be told, he probably didn't at the end of the 80s. I never heard the "new decade in modernism" album til it came out on TSC's box set, and to be frank, I've never been so grateful for a "skip" button on a CD player. But this is something else. A man cornered, perhaps, but if so, he certainly knows how to come out fighting. This album is to Weller what All Mod Cons was to The Jam. A new beginning, a new hope. It still makes me glad to be alive! |

| In 2005, a single called "From The Floorboards Up" came out and pairs of loafers danced. A roar of pride. In at number 7. The man had done it and reminded people what he could do. It sounded like Johnny Kidd & The Pirates. It sounded urgent. In the autumn came "Come On/Lets Go" and 2005 sounded good and alive.
"As Is Now" is not a consistent peak across its fourteen tracks. The aforementioned singles are the cream of the album. That is not, however, to say that the rest of the album is poor. Kicking off with some stodge in "Blink And You'll Miss It" and the lumpen "Paper Smile" you could be forgiven for wandering off. However track 3 comes good with "Come On..."
