Not had a lot of chance to listen to this, 2 things come to mind though;
There is a definite Slayer feel to the songs, in the riffs and rhythm patterns but that's always been the case.
Also the production is way better than Vol3 - the snare drum is fuller, the bass drum is less clicky and the guitars are fuller.
(I personally prefer the production on the first 2 albums than Subliminal Verses).
Sorry, I can't be more detailed, but I'm snowed under with stuff at the moment!

I'd enjoyed a couple of tracks on the radio, but hearing the album as a whole it starts to become a bit too 'arctic monkeys' - who I don't dislike, but it's just a bit too strident, and not enough 60s-ness.

Nice enough in small doses, but if you don't like alex turners voice you'd hate it.

...like water shouldn't be squandered so I'll keep it brief.

The least good album by a marvellous band whose output gradually returns less and less impact (listen to this alongside Asleep At The Back with decent ears and you'll know what I'm bleating about)...

...but despite this, a slightly diminished Elbow record rains filth from serious altitude all over any band they might be compared to. Why they aren't outselling Coldplay's brand of bland public school nyamming ennui by 10 to 1 is one of those anomalies you can only put down to the cloth-eared idiocy of Joe and Jenny Public.

Mirrorball, Starlings, The Bones of You, Weather To Fly all have the melodic and emotional clout to cast the ironically named Gary Lightbody's ... Read More

Eliza Carthy, Karine Polwart, Luka Bloom (Christy Moore's brother Barry) - what's not to like? Anyone who has been in touch with the contemporary folk scene in recent years will find much to enjoy here. My own joy was finding a track by the wonderful Mary Gauthier - her "I Drink" was a festival highlight for me a few years ago. This CD is cheap enough for dedicated fans to give to friends who are convinced that folk is Fair Isle jumpers, beards and hands over ears.
This has to be the best value CD in my collection - not a duff track in the mix. There are several live versions as is common with albums of this type, but none that make you hastily skip a track. Buy it, you know it makes sense. If you want to do something "folky", it's cheaper than a pint of the black stuff... and ... Read More

27.Lessons To Be Learned by: Gabriella Cilmi

Cilmi has a characterful voice, but her album is let down by poor quality control. 'Sweet About Me' is undeniably great, and the ballad 'Safer' is well above average, but much of the rest seems like autopilot Xenomania to me - too many tracks sound like the ones Girls Aloud left in the wreckage after a ram-raid on the studio. The bonus cover of 'Echo Beach', a proper song with a memorable tune, only shows up the fluffy filler that precedes it.

I'm 46. My eldest daughter is almost 22. (not that THAT matters, but I'm perhaps a little older than the average Kings of Leon "fan"?) Because of the Times is one of those rare cd's you can put on, and listen to, (all the way through) when you need a cd you can put on, and listen to, all the way through, without having to fast forward through the rubbish bits. Because there aren't any. (rubbish bits) Brilliant, as I said.

I love Sigur Ros, and this is a fine album but I cannot help but feeling disappointed. It is indeed another step towards more mainstream audiences, with noise levels toned down and awkward silences ridden of - but this isn't the problem, it's only natural that this would have happened. The problem is that the pain is gone, and without it their music is just some interesting arrangements and atmospheric tunes.

Takk was more commercial that the masterpiece that is Ágaetis Byrjun, but the levels of emotion remained high. Even the last release before this album, the single Hljomalind, which was their first proper pop song structurally, retained some grittiness.

This album, however, loses that almost completely. The first track, Gobbledigook, is unique and raises expectations ... Read More

I'm not from the US, my family hail from Kashmir and I was born in the UK, grew up listening to punk rock but WOW! The soundtrack literally drips with the era and place it hails from; every time I hear a snippet I swear I can feel the heat and smell the wheat - so amazing!
