| Having the need to source new software for new computer and upgrade others I searched the reviews on Amazon but was worried to see some not so very positive comments about the Home and Student edition. However need and positive past experience with MS Office products overcame concerns and I ordered it. The good news is I had nothing to worry about, it loaded perfectly and is running just fine. Powerpoint is there in its entirety.
One very happy customer and good value for money. |

A first-time negative reviwer, and a previous admirer of the Microsoft Office stable, I have to register disgust at this particular Microsoft offering. It is misleading, and if you want a comprehensive product, you are going to have to spend a lot more. As backgound, I am a "silver" post-grad now involved in cardiology related voluntary work with the NHS. My wife is a seving Headteacher. At the turn of last year we decided to update our long sufferring systems, which were struggling to cope with Office XP professional (2003). | This new version of Office has too many problems. In addition to the slow performance the lack of compatability with other versions (meaning settings have to be changed to save files in the old format) makes day to day operation a pain. Added to that network operation on classic Office files is very uncertain.
I have tried three service pack versions. The first one wouldn't open Excel XLS files through the network, then after the next service pack it did, after the next fix pack it didn't. Files seem to randomly get saved into last used save folders when they have been opened from somewhere else. | One Care is a fully comprehensive anti-virus program, firewall program it also has backup and restore utilities and system tune-up options. I have usually used separate products for each of these functions but decided to give One Care a go after purchasing a new computer with Vista Home rather than XP on it.
The initial installation could not be easier (unlike when I have tried McAfee on a laptop) and the programme integrates seamlessly with all my applications: Word Excel Outlook Etc and then provides simple and easy to understand popup (much like you get with Internet Explorer) when it detects any problems changes etc whilst running your PC. | I was very disappointed in the 64-bit version and I should have known that if THE major on-line only manufacturer of 64-Bit (Intel/AMD) PC's do not ship (as of Nov 2006) this OS with their 64-bit processors then there must be a reason.
And there was. Make sure you have a 64-Bit version of your ethernet driver (if you are on broadband) or Modem (for dial-up) BEFORE you install this OS. Whist setting the machine up to work with standard software like MS Office and business printers was no problem, home-based hardware drivers are more difficult to come by. Whist the OS supports 32-Bit drivers, they do not work in many cases. This is why I feel most disappointed that MS did not get this one working correctly. Read More |

| I upgraded to vista after having a few problems with XP.
Looking back, I don't know what I was worrying about. VISTA IS RUBBISH! I have got all the correct requirements for Vista, sometimes actually much better, RAM in this case. Vista runs really slowly, won't play my music back properly & wont install my printer! My wife has since bought a laptop with XP on it & boy do i wish i could go back, but it wont let me. WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY! |

| Microsoft are getting cocky again - this has possibly the worst user interface I have ever encountered complete with terrible visual style, appears to have been designed to be deliberately counterintuitive with the loss/change of many shortcuts as well as the loss of menus, and I did not notice a single new feature.
Get OpenOffice or stick with office 2003. |
