This is one of the best Disney films ever - the story and the songs are brilliant and really catchy. I would love to buy this on DVD as my tape is getting worn. Please Disney do a DVD - everyone loves this film!!!

Watched it quite by accident one Sunday morning. Found it so sad. Although I could half guess what was going to happen, I was wishing that Robert Taylor was going to save Vivian Leigh in time. Must admit it really upset me. Was really sad for her, but also for him in that he still loved her after all that time. Think I will stop now before I get upset all over again!

VHS : The Garden Of Allah [1936]
Strong 1936 drama about a rich but unfulfilled woman Domini Enfilden (Dietrich) who seeks her destiny in the deserts of north Africa and meets Boris Androvsky (Boyer) a Trappist monk who has deserted the order. The chemistry between the mature Dietrich and the young and incredibly handsome Boyer in his first starring role is excellent.

We also have Basil Rathbone in a sympathetic role as a friend, and the unforgetable C Aubrey Smith as a priest, with his magnificent features, they don’t seem to make them like this any more.

Fine directing of a timeless story with acting and dialogue that does not date

This is the first film where they attempted to shoot Technicolor on location, but unfortunately after a ... Read More

All the actors are topnotch. You will find yourself kibitzing for both sides and cringe as they play with each other as a cat and mouse. The question is who is the cat?

This is a W.W.II film about how naive the Americans are about what is going on in Europe. When the fight and ideologies become a reality in their house, they are forced to take sides in the struggle for freedom. Many ideological speeches take place between family members and other acquaintances; this is probably due to being an adaptation from a play. Even though on the surface this looks like an anti-fascist film, it is more complex with people that have diverse motives. However, they show that there is only one way to deal with evil so that future generations will ... Read More

This non-pretentious sincerely simple yet unsophisticated and sentimental movie is great to watch even today for one good reason ,it is straight from the heart .

Selznick casts his characters impeccably and they deliver the goods in perfection with a tongue-in -cheek style that makes for great art from almost trashy plots which have been taken from ordinary human lives .

It employs no grand techniques or deftful lighting ,just narrative driven cinema with plain ordinary lines which make up for everyday joys and sufferrings of humanity ,but with a quint-essential style as art needs a medium to reflect life itself and ordinary life is fascinating when observed from varied perspectives .

I really enjoyed this film. I am just a new fan of Carole Lombard and this was the first film i've seen her in and i'll definitely be buying more. Robert Montgomery and Jack Carson are also excellent. It is a fun comedy but if you're looking for typical hitchcock this isn't for you.

VHS : The Razor's Edge [1946]
The newly released DVD of 20th Century Fox's production of W. Somerset Maugham's "The Razor's Edge" is a cinematic treasure. The direction by Edmond Goulding is top notch and captures the glamour and decadence of post World War I Paris in glittering perfection. Much praise must go to the art and set direction by Richard Day and Nathan Juran. Over 80 sets were constructed; some only glimpsed for a few moments evoke the period and splendor of the time and place. The production values of this picture are of the highest quality of this, Fox's "Important Picture for 1946".Goulding was famous for long takes and he is aided by the brilliant cinematographer Arthur C. Miller. The score by Alfred Newman is magnificent though surprisingly sparse for a film from the 1940's His use of ... Read More
