| An excellent plot line, side-splitting one-liners and brilliant acting. Enjoyable for all ages, heart warming and emotional, I don't think I will ever tire of this film. |

| Absolutely hilarious depiction of Manc lad Paul Calf, with his Chuck Norris haircut and total inability to function as a respectable citizen. Meet his mate Fat Bob, sister Pauline Lulu Calf, and two appearances by playwright Patrick Marber, as Roland the student and Spiros ("like a Greek god, only fatter and with a tache"). Very funny scripts and set-ups, this is a character Coogan ought to revive (Calf in his 40s, still on benefits despite getting four numbers once at the lottery?). One grumble - why isn't this on DVD yet? - my VHS is getting worn out. |

| At the time of writing this, sadly, this classic and popular comedy drama from the 80's is unavailable on DVD. The dramatisation closely follows Tom Sharpe's excellent book. Ignore the fact that local authority planning doesn't work according to he story, as the plot thickens with every scene, and it's so very very amusing. David Suchet excels as Blott, Geraldine James glows as Lady Maud and George Cole makes an adequate Sir Giles and it's amusing to see Julia McKenzie in a catsuit. It comes as a two part video set, each episode being around 3 hours long. Watch and enjoy the raunchy fun. |

| This film is an absolute gem that never dates. I could rave on about it for hours but I will try not to and attempt to provide a review that gives a balanced account of it.
I first saw this on tv. It was up against Fatal Attraction on another channel and I had to choose which to 'watch' and which to record for later. At the very last minute I changed my mind from recording FA and decided I would tape 'Dancin' thru the Dark' instead. Well..... it was the best decision I have EVER made!!! I couldn't even try to count how many times I have watched it over the years. | This extra long version of shooting stars is Exellent. At the begining there's a bonus video staring the shooting stars regulars which is great,and the guests which include Robbie williams and Martin clunes are hilarious. | Whatever else anyone likes or hates about this fmin, its the small details that really make it work.
The very weird music hall scene with the Triplets - featuring Django Reinhardt (the guitarist playing with his foot), Josephine Baker getting attacked by monkeys after the bananas, and Fred Astaire getting eaten by his own tap shoes, for one. Next, the passage of time, with the sudden appearance of the railway bridge, pushing Madame Souza's house aside. Then there is the impossibly steep road Champion cycles up, followed by Grandma on his old trike. The massive ocean liner - straight from an art-deco poster with its sleek and stretched lines. |
