VHS : Star Wars Trilogy (Special Edition) [Gold Box Set]
This is the collector's edition and I suggest you get it while you can, as they only sold them up til Christmas Eve of '97, which should make them quite valuable!
And I know because I almost wasn't able to grab one, so get one off Amazon now, keep it for a few years and hope it becomes more valuable in a few years!!

VHS : Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Series 7 Part 2 [1998]
I loved this series. I feel that it's all about the end of an era of Buffy and Buffyverse. If I could have the Buffster back I would. Unfortunately, I will have to settle for the collection instead.

VHS : Doctor Who - The Day Of The Daleks [1972]
The ninth season of Doctor Who opened with a group of guerillas from earth in the twenty-third century, travelling back three hundred years in time. Their mission is to assassinate a British diplomat and sabotage a peace process. They believe that by doing so, they can prevent a great terror in the future.
The Daleks return to Doctor Who after a five year absence. This is an enjoyable, if not classic, adventure from Pertwee's era. Pertwee and the regulars are all on fine form. A special mention must go to Aubrey Woods for a memorable strong performance as the Controller in the future earth, who must wrestle with his conscience. This was also the story which introduced the brutal Ogrons.
There are some disappointments. The Dalek voices ... Read More

A wonderful performance. I loved first watching it 20 years ago. McQueen's charisma is unbeatable. They should never have bothered with the Brosnan remake.

6.The Hour Of The Pig [1994] starring: Colin Firth, Ian Holm, Donald Pleasence, Amina Annabi, Nicol Williamson

VHS : The Hour Of The Pig [1994]
Clever Parisian lawyer moves to the country to bring law to the people, but finds himself outsmarted by simple country folk at every turn. Of course he decides that if you can't beat them, join them - especially when he finds himself defending a pig on a charge of murder. In a world where a man and a donkey are prepared for execution and the donkey gets a reprieve and the man doesn't, what would you do? In the end he unwittingly makes a lucky escape and the "smart" folk don't. Good clean fun - except for the dirt and squalor - with a memorable turn from Ian Holm as a less-than-upright priest.

VHS : Doctor Who - Planet Of The Spiders [1974]
Every time I watch this one, it starts off superb but then by episode four it starts to collapse. Patrly because the Metebelis Three people are so stupid and can't act. There are mostly good speical effects all along, and the regeneration is fairly standard, but female spiders?

VHS : Doctor Who - The Awakening/Frontios [1963]
A well written and well produced story, this boasts one of Peter Davison's finest ever portrayals of the Doctor. here is is strong, domineering, quirky, eccentric, funny and manipulative in turns, commanding the screen and dealing with human authorities and nasty, scheming alien creatures with equal amounts of authority. Anyone who thinks davsion is not one of the best Doctors needs look no further than this story to see the emergence of a giant, ready to become an unsurpassed legend just two stories later as he visits a set of titular Caves! Watch it and savour it, it is one of the finest! The dialog alone is a treat to ears! Watch it!

9.Mary Shelley's Frankenstein [1994] starring: Robert De Niro, Kenneth Branagh, Tom Hulce, Helena Bonham-Carter, Aidan Quinn

VHS : Mary Shelley's Frankenstein [1994]
This is an awful adaptation. It bastardizes the essence of Shelley's novel. While the novel nurtures a moral dilemma at its heart, this destroys it. (This cannot be demonstrated better than when the monster rips out Elizabeth's heart, serving as an apt metaphor for the film ripping out the heart of the text). The sympathy for the monster which Shelley really draws on is completely undercut in the film by the monster's portrayal as a cold blooded murderer wanting an unjustified amount of revenge...it ignores the reasons behind his sadness, ignoring the carefully crafted manipulation which Shelley plays with the reader's own preconceived ideas.
Among the monstrosities are the changing of the monster's final speech when Victor had died, which should have been a real ... Read More

This film is really excellent, brilliant story, acting and directing.

I was just wondering if someone can shed any light on the reason behind not being able to buy it new...?
