VHS : Brave New World
Leslie Libman and Larry Williams' movie "Brave New World", which was originally written by Aldous Huxley, is about a "savage" named John in a utopian society in which mankind seems to live without any problems or issues. John is thrown in to that lifestyle but starts questioning it, not feeling comfortable with the idea of designing humans, not being in love with one another or taking free drugs so no one starts questioning things.

The directors did not leave the story unedited. A good example is the very first chapter, in which important information are revealed to the READER. The VIEWER is not given those facts about cloning and designing humans in the Brave New World. Furthermore, in the end, John does not kill himself - he "accidentally" ... Read More

VHS : Doctor Who - The War Games
The War Games is an epic story that sees the departure of the cosmic hobo,Patrick Troughton, the iconic 2nd Doctor, long serving companion Jamie, played by Frazer Hines and the lovely,Wendy Padbury, playing super intelligent Zoe Heriot.
The story starts with the Doctor and his companions arriving in no man's land during WW1,the great twist being,it turns out to be an alien planet with aliens casually watching kidnapped earth men despataching each other, through reinactments of various wars.
The story goes on for 10 episodes and special praise must go to Malcolm Hulke and Terrance Dicks, for a highley imaginative script and the directon by the late,David Maloney is excellent.
The story is a lot more mature than others in season 6,setting the way for the more serious ... Read More

VHS : Doctor Who: Revenge of the Cybermen [1963]
I will confess that this story is not as good as I thought it would be but as time passes it does grow on me.

The cybermen themselves are back on track after their underused performance in 'The Invasion' and are seen to be a lot more cunning and manipulative. E.g. using human greed to aquire the services of a human agent. However I am disapointed that they don't have much involvement in the story until episode 3 but their performance makes up for that.

Tom Baker is excellent as the Doctor, as usual. His banter with the Cyberleader during episode three is a mixture of seriousness and silliness and thats what makes it so good.

Companions Harry and Sarah are seen to have their own mini adventure in this story trying to avoid capture by the Vogans which ... Read More

VHS : Doctor Who - The Deadly Assassin [1976]
This is an excellent adventure written by Robert Holmes, probably the best script writer the show ever had, and who wrote some of my favourite episodes including this, plus 'Spearhead From Space', 'The Ark In Space', 'The Talons Of Weng Chiang' and 'The Caves Of Androzani'.

The Galifrey set is looking a bit dated now, but it also looked quite low-tech in 1976 as well. What really makes this a special episode for me, is the brilliant plot, plus the Doctor going through the Matrix. The Matrix is an hallaguenic dream sequence with the Doctor facing imaginary threats from the Master, plus also being chased by a Bounty Hunter. The threat scenarios are very imaginative, for example: being shot at by a WW1 fighter plane, getting trapped on a railway line, having the water poisened, being almost ... Read More

VHS : Doctor Who - The Day Of The Daleks [1972]
The ninth season of Doctor Who opened with a group of guerillas from earth in the twenty-third century, travelling back three hundred years in time. Their mission is to assassinate a British diplomat and sabotage a peace process. They believe that by doing so, they can prevent a great terror in the future.
The Daleks return to Doctor Who after a five year absence. This is an enjoyable, if not classic, adventure from Pertwee's era. Pertwee and the regulars are all on fine form. A special mention must go to Aubrey Woods for a memorable strong performance as the Controller in the future earth, who must wrestle with his conscience. This was also the story which introduced the brutal Ogrons.
There are some disappointments. The Dalek voices are different, and not so effective as in earlier ... Read More

VHS : Doctor Who - The Movie [1996]
Doctor Who - The Movie [1996] [1963] This is perhaps one of the most underated DVD's in the whole Doctor Who series both new and classic. The main problem is the bad guy or more specifically the actor who portrays him, Eric Roberts is a great bad guy in lots of B'Movies but just wasn't right for this film (his choice was forced on the writers/director due to pressure from the american backers). On the whole though the film is a great little jaunt, the interior of the TARDIS is fantastic and McGann plays the role fantastically. idea for the future (McCoy, McGann, Eccleston and Tennant) The Four Doctors

Why has the Graham Williams era always been so heavily criticised? In my view, I cant see any forgettable or stupid stories at all. All I can remember are classics like Image Of The Fendahl and The Ribos Operation and The Sun Makers and The Pirate Planet and need I go on?! Oh yeah, City Of Death too! And heres another story to join the ranks as a classic in Doctor Who history.

Underworld has also been criticised for its CSO use with all the caves, but i think the story doesnt look that bad at all. And yet again then are great comic moments, such as when Leela is passified, this scene is one opf my favourite scenes ever of Doctor Who, she just looks so great! And this story is far better than moronic star wars, even if it doesnt have any real monsters. Star Wars is total garbage, for all of it so ... Read More

This is the collector's edition and I suggest you get it while you can, as they only sold them up til Christmas Eve of '97, which should make them quite valuable!
And I know because I almost wasn't able to grab one, so get one off Amazon now, keep it for a few years and hope it becomes more valuable in a few years!!

I bought the video because I wanted to see what Pertwee's last season was like with Sarah Jayne. After hearing bad things about Pertwee's last season, I was pleasantly surprised. Sarah Jayne was no doubt a big improvement on Jo Grant. The story begins when the Doctor and Sarah crash land on an eerie dark planet which has drained their power so it begins very atmospheric and scary, and is a pretty grippping story throughout. The sets and effects are actually quite impressive, especially when the root comes out of the ground and destroys a dalek. Just overlook the dodgy model work when the city collapses at the end. This is a unique Pertwee story because it is a rare occasion when the story isn't Earth based with no Brigidier. If only more Pertwee stories had been like that. This was produced by Barry Letts who left ... Read More
