| I absolutely love this book. I first found it at the local library and Had to Have It! I find two drawbacks and they are that the 'pests' and diseases aren't defined enough for the novice gardener. The 'pests' are pictured in black and white while the diseases are written only. This is a great gift for a new gardener. |

| "Dummies" is bliss. Having recently purchased a home in the city that had a preexisting herb garden was a wonderful extra. What to do, however, if you know nothing about herbs (the 70's notwithstanding)and even less about gardening? Along comes Herb Gardening For Dummies. Once I learned that dirt under ones nails can actually be sexy (okay, it's the pasta sauce made with fresh crushed basil from your own garden that really scores)the rest is largely downhill...and surprisingly fun. Written with the same wit and easy to follow guidelines as other Dummy publications, my only complaint is that the book isn't smudgeproof. | I'm thoroughly enjoying this book. I started by just looking at the excellent photos and perusing the informative Plant Portrait section (half the book!). I particularly liked the inclusion of related native plants in this section. Then I dove back into the first half of the book, with its helpful and friendly approach to all areas of flower gardening and its sidebar tips and lists. Whether you're an active long-time gardener, a wanna be or even an armchair gardener, this book will give you much pleasure. |
